The Basics of Dog Training
If you have recently adopted a new puppy or are thinking about getting a puppy for your family, you need to take into serious consideration the training methods you will apply. Training a puppy can be a simple task if you choose the most effective methods for your new puppy.
The most popular methods include leash training, obedience training and crate training. Leash training is something that every puppy owner should try and many people have found success with this method in the past. Although puppies will generally walk with you by your side without straying, this will not always be so. As your puppy grows older they will not want to follow you anymore and this is why it is a good idea to start them with a leash at a young age. In order to teach your puppy not to pull on the rope you simply stand stationary and allow your dog to push and pull until he/she gets tired and realizes this is not working. After repeating this method several times your puppy will stop this pulling and you can enjoy a relaxing walk with your dog.
Obedience training for your dog is something many people utilize while their dogs are still puppies. Starting this type of training at a young age is the key to success. Obedience training allows you to teach your dogs not only tricks but commands as well to ensure your puppy is well trained and even more important, well behaved as well. Obedience training is something that requires a great deal of discipline and patience from the owner in order to achieve the greatest success. If you are not interested in spending the time to provide obedience training for your new puppy, there are many services available today which will do it for you.
Crate training is another popular dog training method which people generally use for house training their puppies. There has been some controversy over this method as some people find it affective; others find it to be cruel. Of course just like any method of dog training there are limits to the methods so as not to harm the puppy and this goes for crate training as well. As dogs like to have their own beds, they also like them to be clean so what this method does is when you are house training your dog you keep them in this crate during their meal times and for a short time afterwards. No dog will want to mess in their crates as they will eventually view it as their home. Remember to only keep your dogs in their crate for a small amount of time and make sure the crate is large enough for your dog as well.
Dog training is something every dog owner must utilize if they want their dog to be well behaved and trained before they are too old to learn.
